Zusammenfassung
Kazao is happy with his life on Mirai ("Future") Island. Sure, his parents abandoned him after he was born, leaving him to be raised at the orphanage-like facility, but his life is comfortable and has his friends, especially the lovely Eiko, the girl he loves. One night, however, he has a horrible nightmare where he sees himself die in a motorcycle accident. After that, everything changes. The next day, his parents are miraculously "found" and he is torn from his idyllic life and Eiko's side to be thrust into a world he knows only from television shows and school assignments. Dropped unceremoniously in the middle of a city with only a sketchy map for guidance, Kazao is saved from wandering aimlessly in search of his new home by the cute and forward Yuu, who turns out to be in his class at his new school as well. Despite his best efforts to accept his parents' sudden return and Yuu's friendly overtures, Kazao can't shake the feeling that things aren't quite right. Nor can he forget Eiko. Why did his parents wait sixteen years to call him back? And why is the piano the only used piece of furniture in his parents' new house? The mysteries begin to pile one atop the other as the lies fall apart in this intriguing story of future possibilities and innocent romance.

A Girls review
Sometimes I'm just in the mood to read something easy, short but still interesting. In one of these occasions I just happened to stumble upon A Girls.
Interesting basic premise? Check. Short? Check. Easy reading without obscure philosophies or hard-to-get scientific mumbo-jumbo? Check. Alrighty, let's dive right in... STORY 8/10 A story is well paced and keeps you interested form the first chapter to the last. It even has a few surprising plot-twists here and there, which is quite an accomplishment from a manga of this length. However, quite a few things were never really explained and the ending was such a convenient cop out. It was still good but I would have been happier if it were whom did Kazao actually choose in the end. I can't get into details without spoiling the entire manga, so let's just say the ending was a bit more open then I'd like it to be. Also, toning down fanservice a bit would've made the manga better. ART 7/10 Well, nothing to write home about here. It's good but nothing special really. CHARACTERS 7/10 The characters are interesting enough to keep you on with the story but that's all. After their first introduction you pretty much know all about them. No significant character development, hidden traits or anything the like. But hey, for 15 chapters this is enough and I have no serious complaints. ENJOYMENT 8/10 Did I get what I was looking for? Mostly. It was an enjoyable ride but the background info on the island and it's "mysteries" were a bit too vague and, as I've already said the ending left me hanging. OVERALL 8/10 If you want an interesting, easy to read love story with some mystery twist in it, go for it. You won't regret it. Chances are that this won't be the manga of your life but it's definitely an enjoyable and fun way to spend an hour or so. |
A Girls review
A Girls is overall a good time, fun, good paced, and sometimes intriguing.
Story: 7/10 The best thing about this story is the pacing, it is short and follows excellent rhythm all throughout. My problem with it is how unclear the story is as to who is the bad guy, this role shifts from character to character, sometimes you think that there is an entire evil organization, and sometimes you feel that there is no bad guy. I will not spoil anything but the way this was resolved kinda bothered me. The ending also fell a little short of what I was expecting but at least it wasn't rushed out. Art: 6/10 Decent, sometimes inconsistent traces and an overall style that I'm not the biggest fan of Overall (6/10) A bit inconsistent with its themes, A Girl manages to keep a good pace and is overall not a bad manga. |
